Outreach Ministry

Podor

Podor is a town located along the north eastern border of Senegal. It was once the capital of the Tukulor tribe, who were nomads that began to settle in cities. The Tukulor people traded gold pots among other things with traveling Arab merchants, which is how the town got its name. Pot d'or in French or pot of gold. This small river town has no Christian presence. As we look toward our 4th term in Senegal we have a vision to reach towns like Podor with the Gospel by planting churches and starting schools. Please pray with us that the Lord would open doors of ministry in northern Senegal.

Reaching the North

Church Locations

As you can see in the map, all of the churches are in the central and southern part of Senegal with no churches in northern cities such as Podor and Matam. In order for a church planting effort to be effective in the north it is best to send out a Senegalese pastor and a team of Senegalese Christians who are prepared to spend several years working together. The best way to do that is by sending out Christian teachers to open Christian elementary schools that serve as the nucleus of a church plant.

Loving our Neighbors

The month of Ramada is, when Muslims abstain from food and drink during daylight hours. This year during Ramadan there was talk of a church in the States who was planning to burn a Quran. During the week that was supposed to happen the LEER GI school in Saint-Louis provided bread, coffee, and figs to a neighborhood mosque for Muslims who break fast together at nightfall. This gesture was very appreciated by local leaders as an expression of neighborly love.

Crayon Donation

Crayons

A wondeful lady named Dessie in Nebraska created covers and provided crayons for all the children in the Leer Gi school. The kids were thrilled to have their own set of crayons.

Please Pray:

  1. For the children of this neighborhood. Many of them come from homes that can not afford to send their children to school.
  2. With excessive rain this year, many areas of town are flooded. The public school has not yet opened due to flooding.

Kids' Carnival Outreach

The Leer Gi Christian School in Saint-Louis finished it's second year in June of 2010 with about 45 students. On the last day of class we held a school wide carnival for the children. The Bible theme was David and Goliath; showing that it is possible to do anything with the help of God. Over 100 people attended the carnival including the friends and families of the students.

Please Pray

  1. The word of the Lord would find a place in the hearts and minds of all those who attended.
  2. The Lord would bless the teachers' efforts as they share the love of Christ with students everyday.
  3. That these carnival outreaches would be a blessing to all who attend.

Senegal Ladies Retreat

In May 2010 the ladies of the Assemblies of God Churches around the country gathered together for a 3 day retreat. Bunking together in cabins on the beach, we rose early each morning to worship together as the sun rose. The days were filled with singing, dancing, praising and learning. It was a wonderful opportunity for me (Laura) to get to know women who live in towns and villages I rarely get to visit. It was a time of encouragement for all the Christian ladies that attended.

Please Pray:

  1. Please pray for these hard working women who strive to live for Christ and share His love with their families, friends and neighbors.

Ladies' Ministry

Ministry Team

Ephesians 2:10 says, " For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (NIV) There are countless examples of women in the Bible who rose to the occasion and stepped boldly out to do the work of God. Women who trusted God above all else, using the talents and abilities that He gave to them. We had the previlage of traveling to Tambacounda in January to share these Bible stories with the women of the church. It was our hope to encourage them with these examples of women, such as Ruth, Martha, Ester, Debora and Tabitha. Women who used thier abilities for the glory of God.

Please Pray:

  1. Pray that these ladies would be encouraged to continue serving the Lord with their whole hearts, using their unique talents to bless the Lord..
  2. Pray that we will have the opportunity to minister to other women in the upcoming months.

The God Story

God Story Film

At New Years we were able to show “The God Story” in Wolof, on DVD projector. The film begins with the creation of the world and walks through the major events of the Pentateuch. There were about 75 people in attendance at the film, many of whom had previously viewed the “Jesus” film last Easter. We hope to continue showing Christian films as they become available in Wolof. Thank you for your support of this ministry. Please continue to pray that the Lord will speak to people through this media ministry.

Thank You

Thank you to the Women’s Ministry of South Side Assembly of God in Omaha, NE, for helping us purchase this DVD projector.

Please Pray:

  1. Please pray that the Lord would use these Wolof films to touch people and plant the word of God in their hearts.
