Senegal is located on the West Coast of Africa just below Mauritania and to the left of Mali. This small nation gained it's independence from France in 1960 and has maintained a peaceful government over the last 48 years. Senegal has freedom of religion, although the predominate religion is Islam. The main exports of Senegal are peanuts and fish with a 48%(2) unemployment rate for the Nation.

Religion in Senegal

Senegal is approximately 92% Islamic. Most Senegalese belong to Islamic brotherhoods, which are mystical orders that follow the teachings of their Islamic leaders. The two major brotherhoods are the Mouride and the Tidjane. These brotherhoods are an important part of the history and culture in Senegal.

Assemblies of God in Senegal

The Senegal A/G has about 40 churches, including a strong representation in the capital and among the less Islamic peoples of southern Senegal. This church is just beginning to take shape, with strong Senegalese leadership and the re-opening of their Bible school.

Friendship evangelism is the foundation of church growth in Senegal. Most of the people coming to the Lord are responding, at least in part, to a positive long term experience they had with a believer.
